The images on this page show metal silos whose structural design we handled for G.P. DI PIAZZON S.R.L.: indoor and outdoor units for different plants and stored materials, with different sizes, supports and operating conditions.
Every stored product needs its own silo. Height, diameter and capacity follow the process and the space available on site. Steel and aluminium give different answers; the content (from plastic granules to flour) sets the load cases.
Our structural design treats geometry, materials and use as one problem. The calculation goes beyond product weight: wall pressures, filling and emptying cycles, wind and seismic actions, and the stability of supports and stiffeners. Thicknesses, connections, frames and anchors are detailed as one system, with fabrication and erection in mind.
Geometry and capacity
sizing tied to each process and the clearances of that plant.
Load cases
product pressures, fill/empty cycles, wind and seismic actions.
Materials
steel or aluminium according to the stored product and the environment.
Details
thicknesses, stiffeners, connections, supports and anchors as one system.
